The strong partnership between NUMECA International, with its Flow Integrated Numerical Environment, and CONCEPTS NREC with its Agile Engineering Design System, gave rise to the fastest and most accurate CFD suite for Turbomachinery design on the market today.

Concepts NREC’s Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) modules enable engineers to perform meanline design optimization for all types of rotating machinery.

These modules each have a unique Design Wizard that leads the user through all the necessary steps for design, analysis, and data reduction. The meanline design can then easily be sent to AxCent® for further blade design and fluid dynamic analysis. 

Application-specific modules for radial compressors, axial turbines & compressors, pumps, and radial turbines offer a variety of features, including:

  • Modeling - Two-Elements-in-Series (TEIS) rotor diffusion modeling, two-zone loss modeling, single-zone rotor loss modeling, disk friction, exit mixing,  etc.
  • Integrated Performance Map Plotting
  • Axial View with Velocity Triangles
  • Multistage Capability
  • Calculation of real fluid thermodynamics
  • Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) automation

Axial® is already available to be run within the OMNIS™ environment and the other modules will gradually be added in the near future.

 

COMPAL® - Preliminary Design Module for Radial and Mixed-Flow Compressors

Components supported by COMPAL®:

  • Inlet guide vanes
  • Open or closed impellers
  • 2D or 3D impellers
  • Front and rear seals (multiple)
  • Diffuser types, including: Arbitrary vaned, Vaneless, Wedge/channel, Cascade, Conical, 90/180 degree bends
  • Exit elements, including: Collector, Volute, Return channel, Deswirl, Continuous Crossover 
  • Various leakage paths
  • Multistage compressors

AXIAL® - Preliminary Design Module for Multistage Axial Compressors and Turbines

Components supported by AXIAL®:

  • Estimate of hub and tip flow parameters
  • Evaluation of compressor stall and choking conditions for both compressors and turbines
  • Design analysis of multiple choked and stalled components, along with mass flow, pressure ratio, and power
  • Setup of an arbitrary sequence of stage elements (rotor, stator, duct, IGV, EGV, etc.)
  • Loss models for turbines (Ainley-Mathieson; Dunham-Came; Kacker-Okapuu; Moustapha-Kacker)
  • Loss models for compressors (Koch & Smith; Wright & Miller)

PUMPAL® - Preliminary Design Module for Centrifugal, Mixed-Flow, and Axial Pumps

AxCent® - Detailed 3D Design and Rapid 2D Flow Analysis Module for Turbomachinery

AxCent® is used for detailed 3D geometric design and employs powerful features for axial, mixed-flow, and radial geometries that can be combined to design almost any type of turbomachinery. AxCent® directly integrates with COMPAL®, AXIAL®, PUMPAL® and RITAL®.

Components supported by AxCent:

  • Complex blade geometries
  • Options for real-time interactive flow analysis
  • Stress analysis integration with Concepts NREC’s FEA stress analysis program, Pushbutton FEA™
  • Compatibility  with many commercial and open source software packages
