finot-conq & NUMECA create a CFD-based and dynamic VPP

BRUSSELS, Belgium - December 1st

On the occasion of the Global CFD Summit organized December 1st and 2nd, NUMECA International, a global leader in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) multiphysics and optimization, has announced a new partnership with world-renowned finot-conq naval architects for the creation of a dynamic, CFD-based Velocity Prediction Program (VPP) for sailing yachts.

The new VPP module will be incorporated within NUMECA’s FINE™/Marine software suite from the beginning of 2021, making it the first CFD software on the market to offer efficient and dedicated performance prediction for sailing boats.

A VPP is a computer program that solves the performance of a sailing yacht in various wind conditions by balancing hull and sail forces. In classical VPPs, CFD is performed by computing many fixed boat positions, and requires a large number of preliminary calculations to be able to make performance predictions for a single operation point.

However, thanks to 3 years of research by finot-conq, the VPP can now be integrated into FINE™/Marine, making it possible to calculate an operating point of a sailboat in one calculation. This results in significant gains in CPU time and precision.
 
Through this development, finot-conq and NUMECA International are reaffirming their know-how and their technological mastery in CFD calculations for sailing boats.
