Innovation & Quality

NUMECA is proud to be a partner and sponsor of student teams enabling students to learn hands-on, to solve complex engineering problems and to create state-of-the-art designs.

The Formula Electric Belgium team (from KU Leuven University and Thomas More University College) uses FINE™/Open with OpenLabs™ to increase downforce and reduce drag. Learn more.

The Manta Ray team (from the Moscow Polytechnic University) used FINE™/Marine to minimize drag by reducing the surface area of the hull wetted by the water and the wave making characteristics of the boat. Learn more.

The Poly eRacing team (from Polytechnique Montréal) used HEXPRESS™/Hybrid to design the formula student car. Learn more.

Teams from HEIG-VD and Mines Paris Tech use FINE™/Marine in their participation in the HYDROcontest.

Are you from a student team looking for a CFD-solution? Contact us at academic@numeca.be for further information!

All NUMECA software solutions are available for classroom courses as well as student projects, from our comprehensive turbomachinery, marine, multiphysics, including meshing range. NUMECA software allows instructors to easily incorporate illustrations and exercises into CFD and Fluid Mechanics courses

In the development of state-of-the-art technologies, NUMECA works in partnership on several R&D projects with many universities worldwide.

Soot model developed at TU Delft

FINE™/Open with OpenLabs™ was used to develop a soot model by adding a transport equation for the soot mass-fraction with added nucleation and oxidation source term based on Khan and Greeves + Magnussen’s oxidation model. It was applied to simulate Kent and Honnery’s turbulent ethylene flame (1987).

Stevens Institute used FINE™/Marine to study a free-surface hydrodynamic model for simulating planing hull hydrodynamics. In addition, FINE™/Marine is an example of NUMECA’s close collaboration with universities, as its solver originated as a research tool at Ecole Centrale de Nantes and is still developed there.

The Technische Universität München-Institute for Flight Propulsion is using FINE™/Turbo in research projects.  For example, the software has been used to study interaction between the flow and different casing treatments for a high pressure compressor.

Universidad Publica de Navarra used FINE™/Open with OpenLabs™ successfully for predicting wind flow to complex terrain surfaces.
